Education West Africa helps school pupils in Sierra Leone get a better start in life.

Through education, young people can strive to escape poverty and get a job, earn money, live a healthier life, become independent and contribute to their family and the economy of their country.

We ask children, teachers and headteachers what their greatest needs are, and set up projects to fulfil those needs.

Sierra Leone is one of the poorest countries in the world, with a life expectancy of 54 (World Bank data). Education is key to changing this for future generations.

New motorbike for Education Secretary

17 October 2025 11:57

EWA has bought a new motorbike for Bo Education Secretary Alex Puhindei, as his previous bike broke down permanently after 5 years of heavy mileage on bumpy roads travelling to schools across the Diocese. Alex did detailed research to identify a bike which combines good value with reliability. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters at recent fundraising events, the Trustees were delighted to be able to fund the bike, licence and insurance. We wish Alex many miles of safe travel supporting schools in Bo Diocese.
