Education West Africa helps school pupils in Sierra Leone get a better start in life.

Through education, young people can strive to escape poverty and get a job, earn money, live a healthier life, become independent and contribute to their family and the economy of their country.

We ask children, teachers and headteachers what their greatest needs are, and set up projects to fulfil those needs.

Sierra Leone is one of the poorest countries in the world, with a life expectancy of 54 (World Bank data). Education is key to changing this for future generations.

Trustee completes half marathon for EWA

11 October 2025 17:13

EWA Trustee Vicky Smith and her daughter Rachel successfully completed the Robin Hood half marathon at the end of September, and through sponsorship raised over £1,700 to support schools in Sierra Leone. This was a big challenge, requiring lots of training beforehand, and EWA would like to thank them for their efforts. Well done both of you!
