Education West Africa helps school pupils in Sierra Leone get a better start in life.

Through education, young people can strive to escape poverty and get a job, earn money, live a healthier life, become independent and contribute to their family and the economy of their country.

We ask children, teachers and headteachers what their greatest needs are, and set up projects to fulfil those needs.

Sierra Leone is one of the poorest countries in the world, with a life expectancy of 54 (World Bank data). Education is key to changing this for future generations.

St Andrew's Fellowship helps Damballa Road School

03 August 2025 20:57

St Andrew's Fellowship, a group based at St Andrew's Church in Moulsecoomb, Brighton, recently listened to a talk from EWA Trustee Amanda Healey. The event raised £126 for EWA, and this money, combined with other recent generous donations, has already been sent to Sierra Leone to reroof a classroom at Damballa Road School in Bo. Children at this school had been unable to take an exam at the end of the summer term because their classroom was flooded, but from September they will be able to learn in a dry and safe environment.
